While the interior of your house is important, be sure not to neglect the exterior. After all, this is the last thing you see when leaving and the first sight to welcome you home. It also says a lot about you to those passing by. Here are a few ways you can renovate to increase curb appeal.
Paint
The quickest way to give your home a facelift is with a fresh coat of paint. Faded and peeling exteriors can immediately diminish curb appeal. This does not extend only to the house, though. If you have flag poles, planters, house numbers or anything else around your yard that looks tired and worn, bring it back to life with a new coat.
Windows
This is an area that is easily overlooked but can make a huge impact. The “eyes to the home” give a glimpse of your interior style, so take note of how interior window dressings can appear from outside. For privacy while still looking polished, you can go with traditional blinds, or up your game with shutters, which offer a clean, elegant line while maintaining functionality. If you go this route, invest in a high quality purchase to ensure longevity and fade resistance. If you prefer a softer look, opt for blinds, which can also allow more variances in color. Make sure they are fitted for your window dimensions to avoid a sloppy fit and give a streamlined appearance from the street.
Roof
You do not have to replace the entire roof to make it look as though you have. Replace any shingles or roofing that is curled, missing or broken. However, if there is extensive damage or wear, consider full roof replacement for both aesthetic reasons as well as home maintenance.
Landscape
Keep your lawn neatly manicured and line pathways with shrubbery or flowers to create a welcoming feel. Spotlight your front door or porch by framing them with planters. Create depth in the yard with pops of color in multi-layered flower beds or hang flower baskets from tree branches or hangers.
You do not have to spend tons of time or money to up your curb appeal. Making just a few tweaks can have a huge impact.
