Houzz contributor Shane Inman offered up some tips on how to choose between all of the window treatments available. Check ’em out to make your decision easier:
- Semisheer window treatments: Choose the thickness of the fabric based on how much light you want to let into the room. Privacy can be an issue with ultrasheer fabrics, so choose depending on the type of room — bedroom vs. living room.
- Cellular shades: These shades offer a lot of privacy and their honeycomb shape keeps the cold out and heat in.
- Draperies: Drapes offer a lot of options and variations in terms of light, privacy, and decor.
- Roller shades: These are great for places where window treatments are hard to reach to pull up and down. Often, these can be installed with electronics to control from a remote.
- Blackout curtains: Perfect for bedrooms so you can sleep in total darkness, these curtains are so thick that light can’t penetrate. Also, great for babies rooms or rooms that get hit by intense sunlight.
- Shutters: Shutters are a creative way to implement your window treatment into the style of the room.
- Stained glass: Great for doors to let in light but maintain privacy.
- Layered treatments: Layering different treatments creates depth and options.
